Round 5 in Montreal was one for the books with lots of good battles and more carnage. Ryan had a strong qualifying run putting him in 2nd place going into the top 32. Ryan had 2 good battles making his way into the great 8. His first battle was a rematch with Ken Gushi, this time Ryan got the win. After battling Gushi Ryan ended facing up against his good friend Chris Forsberg, although they are good friends they are also fierce opponents when it comes time to do battle. After some really good runs Forsberg ended up getting a well deserved win. See you in Seattle!
What I really liked about this article written by Mike Garrett at SpeedHunters is that it highlights why a car like Alec's is cool and why it is really a breed of it's own. As Mike points out so many drift enthusiasts are constantly comparing which of the 2 styles is superior. Namely traditional Japanese drifting verses Formula Drift and what has evolved into the American style drifting. Why compare them at all? What is wrong with appreciating roots as well as evolution. Which is exactly what Alec's car is being a very popular Japanese chassis with a very capable american power platform, a torque happy blown LS.
Ever wondered what it takes to drive the wall? This video by SR Toyota summed it up nicely as they go to the pits and talk with Ryan Tuerck and our very own John Hoyenga.
"Wall Speedway is a tough track to master, no matter how skilled of a driver you are. Its 30 degree bank is very steep (make it the steepest of all tracks on the Formula Drift circuit), and making the transition to the infield after that bank can be the biggest challenge to overcome, both from the driver's and crew's perspectives."
Never has a single Formula Drift event caused such a reaction or garnered so much hate on social media than the 2016 New Jersey round a couple of weekends back. While I expected to see some backlash from all the drama of Forrest Wang quitting and then coming back again, I had no idea that it would fundamentally change the sport from here on out. - Speed Hunters
The Pedders racing #86 is back home at Motorsports Training Australia with the competition weekend complete, now its time for the students to get to work on post race, and begin preparations for Round 3 of the Australian Production Cars Series at Queensland Raceways 29-31 July
Go check the "show your shine" competition black magic is running that will give you the chance to win up to $1,000 if you win first place.
SR by Toyota did a feature piece on the battle between Ryan Tuerck and Ken Gushi last round at Formula Drift New Jersey. This battle will go down as one of the greats in SR by Toyota tandem battle history. Check out the write up on the SR by Toyota (formerly scion racing) website. Photos by Larry Chen.
If you haven't got a chance to check out The Ridge Motorsports Park this will be a great opportunity. Michelle Abbate along with Steven Redd and Ken Gushi will be at the Ridge all day with the race cars. The drivers may be doing ride alongs (to be confirmed) and we'll be there with the Nameless Subaru BRZ Rally car! Be sure to stop by and come see us at our pit. Expect lots of fun on the big track as well as on the kart track with the drivers.
